Llano County ESD #5 - Fire Chief Opening

Emergency Services District (ESD) #5 for Llano County Texas is currently recruiting for the position of Fire Chief. The ESD will employ the Fire Chief and are considering either a Part-Time or Full-Time candidate to fill the position. The District serves about a 45 square mile coverage area including all of the City of Sunrise Beach Village Texas up to the South Portion of the Community of Kingsland located along the Llano River. There are also several Ranch lands included throughout the entire District. The population of the area is approximately 1200 who are living in rural Texas. The district is anticipating more growth in the coming years given the lower cost of living and enjoyment of nearby Lake LBJ. The ESD was approved by the voters in November 2022 for the provision of Emergency Services in response to an emergency in accordance with Chapter 775 of the Texas Health and Safety Code. The ESD oversees the delivery of emergency services as stated in its formation petition and utilizes the funds collected through taxation. The District is funded through ad valorem taxes which are capped by state law at ten cents per $100 valuation. The ESD is currently contracted with Sunrise Beach Volunteer Fire Department and Granite Shoals Fire & Rescue for emergency services in the District.  Through separate contracts with Llano County, Hamilton EMS provide county-wide EMS transport services to the District, as do several aeromedical helicopter transport services.

The Sunrise Beach Volunteer Fire Department was formed in 1969 and serves the largest portion of ESD #5, approximately 30 square miles. The Department is comprised entirely of Volunteers who are dedicated to serve the area. Average age of the volunteer cadre is approximately 66. This Department is the only department based within ESD#5 and is located within the City of Sunrise Beach Village. It has a full complement of facilities along with apparatus to serve the District. In addition, the northern portion of the District, approximately 15 square miles, is currently serviced by Granite Shoals Fire & Rescue. Both departments, as DSHS First Responder Organizations, work with Hamilton EMS for EMS Transport services in the District. The expectation is that the ESD #5 Fire Chief will be living within a 30-minute proximity to ESD #5 District Boundary within 12 months of hiring. The ESD #5 Fire Chief will also be officed at Sunrise Beach Village Main Fire Station, providing response coverage for the District. The ESD #5 Fire Chief will be heavily involved in the development of the 1-3-5 year Strategic plans, building the program, ensuring career staff meet recognized TCFP training standards along with training for volunteers. The ESD #5 Fire Chief will also be deeply involved in leading the entire District which is a hybrid structure that will have both career and volunteer Fire Fighters.
